This Satirical Thriller

Director Coralie Fargeat's unflinching commentary tackles the oppressive nature of feminine aesthetics as well as the feared consequences of ageing. Demi Moore delivers a masterful acting turn playing Elisabeth, a mature celebrity reduced to starring in a workout series on TV. Edged out due to her unscrupulous employer Harvey, she seeks out an enigmatic and gruesome process known as this experimental method. This produces a new version of herself portrayed by Margaret Qualley, leading to a steadily more parasitic dynamic between them. This Friday, Paramount Plus

This Mystery Thriller

This Agatha Christie-esque mystery stars Keira Knightley playing Laura, a skilled journalist who opts for a break from covering global conflict to join a high-end voyage with an ailing Norwegian shipping heiress and donor, her partner, as well as other affluent individuals. But after a mysterious woman goes overboard one night and the entire crew insists she wasn't real, the reporter's sleuthing skills awaken. Available now, Netflix

Presence Film

The acclaimed director challenges his creative boundaries with this clever paranormal narrative filmed completely through the eyes of the spirit. As a family including mother Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe occupies their new suburban house, the lens – AKA the Presence – follows them around. The teen shows signs of conscious of the poltergeist, and it looks like guarding her. However, the motive remains? This is an entertaining concept that avoids overstaying, featuring a surprise that could catch you off guard. Saturday 11 October, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, Sky Cinema

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

Cage fully commits to his eccentric image via this self-referential adventure. He plays a narcissistic celebrity called Nicolas Cage who takes on a lucrative offer to visit a celebration at a Mediterranean location for the wealthy Javi Gutierrez. Contacted by the CIA to investigate the potential kingpin, Cage's unique performing skills proves useful. Saturday 11 October, 9pm, Channel 4

This Creepy Thriller

Derrickson's locked-room horror remains effective without requiring a follow-up. Located in the late 70s in Denver, several kidnappings has rendered the local kids anxious. When Finney gets captured by the kidnapper and locked up in a cellar, he dreads a fatal end. However, the old telephone on the wall keeps ringing, with ghostly voices offering help, while the intuitive nightmares of his sister Gwen could save him. A solid creepfest. October 11th, 10.50pm, on Film4

The Eyes of Tammy Faye

In the struggle between God and Mammon, it's a knockout win for Mammon in this director's wonderfully garish true story regarding the shamed TV preacher plus her lawbreaking partner. Andrew Garfield plays the greedy Jim, who states at the beginning, claiming divine approval for wealth. He and Tammy Faye commence profiting from the people's spiritual convictions. It's a spectacle of tacky decor, overdone appearance and bad faith, yet Jessica Chastain achieves to show the character with compassion. Tuesday 14 October, 1.15am, on Film4

This Espionage Thriller

This period's second offering by the same director is a spy mystery as precise as the polo necks sported by Michael Fassbender's UK spy. His assignment is to identify a mole inside the organization out of five possibilities – among them is Kathryn, played by Cate Blanchett. Both actors are masters of calm composure, so a delicious mental battle of truth or lie unfolds. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela participate the smart espionage amusement. October 17th, multiple time slots, Sky Cinema
